Overview: We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our dynamic gastroenterology team, specializing in inpatient care. As an integral member of our healthcare team, you will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive care to patients with gastrointestinal disorders during their inpatient stay. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals in a collaborative environment.

Responsibilities:

  1. Clinical Assessment and Management:

    • Conduct thorough assessments of patients admitted for gastrointestinal disorders, including history taking, physical examinations, and interpretation of diagnostic tests.
    • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with attending physicians, tailored to meet the individual needs of each patient.
    • Manage acute and chronic gastrointestinal conditions, including but not limited to inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, gastrointestinal bleeding, and pancreatitis.
    • Order and interpret diagnostic tests such as laboratory tests, imaging studies, and endoscopic procedures.
    • Prescribe medications and adjust dosages as necessary, adhering to established protocols and guidelines.
  2. Patient Education and Counseling:

    • Provide comprehensive education to patients and their families regarding their gastrointestinal condition, treatment options, and self-care strategies.
    • Offer counseling on lifestyle modifications, dietary changes, and medication adherence to promote optimal gastrointestinal health and prevent disease recurrence.
    • Address patient concerns and questions with empathy and clarity, ensuring a thorough understanding of their care plan.
  3. Collaboration and Communication:

    • Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, and social workers, to optimize patient outcomes and ensure continuity of care.
    • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, case conferences, and team meetings to discuss patient progress, treatment plans, and discharge planning.
    • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers, providing updates on the patient's condition, treatment plan, and anticipated discharge date.
    • Serve as a resource and mentor to nursing staff and other healthcare providers, offering expertise in gastroenterology and evidence-based practice.
  4. Quality Improvement and Research:

    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives aimed at enhancing the delivery of care, optimizing clinical outcomes, and promoting patient safety within the gastroenterology service.
    • Stay abreast of the latest advancements in gastroenterology research, guidelines, and best practices, integrating new knowledge into clinical practice as appropriate.
    • Contribute to scholarly activities, including research projects, case studies, and educational presentations, to advance the field of gastroenterology and enhance professional development.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Nursing (MSN) or Physician Assistant Studies (MPAS) from an accredited program.
  • Current certification as a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) specializing in adult-gerontology or acute care.
  • Arizona State licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant (PA-C), with prescriptive authority.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in gastroenterology or a closely related field, preferably in an inpatient setting.
  • Proficiency in conducting comprehensive physical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating differential diagnoses and treatment plans.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development, including continuing education and maintenance of certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced clinical setting.

Work Environment: This position primarily involves working within the inpatient setting of a hospital, with occasional participation in outpatient clinics or procedural areas. The work schedule may include rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed to ensure coverage for patient care services.
